The NDIS is a government agency that provides funding and services to eligible people with disabilities in Australia. The goal of the NDIS is to help people with disabilities live more independently, spend more time with loved ones and improve their quality of life.
An NDIS plan outlines a person's goals for living a full life, as well as the services and supports they need. Plans can consider both current needs and future goals, and can include three types of funding: Core Supports, Capacity Building Supports and Capital Supports.
To apply, you need to fill out an Access Request Form, which asks for information about your disability and how it affects your daily life. You may also need to have your doctor fill out and sign parts of the form.
During the first planning meeting, you may be asked about your personal details, your community and mainstream supports, how you manage daily activities, your safety, and your goals.
The six functional domains are mobility, communication, social interaction, self-management, learning and self-care. These domains help to capture how a disability affects all aspects of a person's life.
There are three levels of NDIS support: Level 1 (standard supports), Level 2 (high intensity supports) and Level 3 (very high intensity supports).
